Stakeholders Conclave - 2024

Mechanical Engineering Department, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida was invited for “Stakeholders Conclave for Common Consumer Goods (Helmet, Toys and Gas Stoves)” organized by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on 8th October 2024 at Okhla Industrial Estate, New Delhi. 3rd year students of ME Department along with faculty member Dr. Saket Kumar (ME Department) attended the conclave.
The objective was to provide students insights into the role of standardization in mechanical engineering and make them learn latest developments in engineering standards
BIS is the National Standards Body of India under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution established under the BIS Act 2016 for the harmonious development of the activities of standardization marking and quality certification of goods. The conclave aimed to bring together professionals, students and industry experts to discuss the importance of standards in engineering practices, research and innovation.
A session by senior BIS officials highlighted the role of standards in ensuring safety, efficiency, and sustainability in engineering practices. Next, industry experts shared their perspectives on how standardization impacts innovation and international competitiveness.
BIS officials emphasized student participation in standardization committees and internships, paving the way for active involvement in the field, and had shown interest in establishing “Standard’s Club” at DGI by signing the MOU.
Students interacted with panelists raising queries about the integration of standards into academic curricula and real-world projects. There was also a discussion on emerging technologies and standards sparked interest in research topics such as additive manufacturing, green engineering, and smart materials.
The students gained a deep understanding of the BIS framework and its relevance to mechanical engineering. The event provided a platform for students to interact with industry leaders, academicians, and policymakers.
The participation of students in the BIS Stakeholders Conclave proved to be a highly enriching experience. It opened new dimension for undergraduate students about the importance of standardization and worked as a motivation to incorporate standardization into their academic and professional pursuits.
